Phuket has an abundance of beautiful beaches and coves. Here are our top 5 best beaches in Phuket from our month long visit exploring the island…
During our time in Phuket in July 2021 the island was still recovering from the effects of COVID-19 and the drastic reduction in tourism. We thoroughly enjoyed being in Phuket during this time with empty beaches to enjoy. We spent 5 weeks moving around to different areas. The majority of our days spent on the beach.
These are the 5 best beaches in Phuket in our opinion.…
*There are many stunningly beautiful beaches on the surrounding islands that you can visit by boat. However, we have just stuck to easy, accessible beaches on the mainland for this post.*
1. Nai Harn Beach, South Phuket
Powdery, white sand in a gorgeous green bay close to Rawai in the very south of Phuket. Nai Harn is less touristy than the beaches on the West Coast and is popular with expats and locals. It is very natural, unspoilt and has a few restaurants set back from the beach which is more than enough for a day at the beach. It is surrounded by green hills and makes for a peaceful beach day.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Rawai then check out Vijitt Resort Phuket. The Vijitt Resort is stunning and was definitely one of our favourite hotels during our time in Phuket.
In our opinion, Nai Harn is the best beach in Phuket.
2. Paradise Beach, West Phuket
A true slice of paradise just south of Patong beach, it’s about 10minutes in a tuk tuk. Paradise beach is a little cove not more than 150m and has a great view across the bay of Patong. There are some little steps to take you over to an even smaller bay where the sea was calmer and less rocky. Wear flip flops when crossing as there’s lots of biting ants to negotiate! Pre-COVID it was a busy beach club but when we visited there was just a handful of people and a small bar. Perfect for what we needed and why we have voted it one of the best beaches in Phuket.
During our time in Patong we stayed at the budget friendly Holiday Inn Express for 5 nights. We then went on to stay at the Grand Mercure Patong, an urban jungle escape.
3. Patong Beach, West Phuket
A beautiful 3km crescent stretch of golden sand on the West of Phuket. It is the busiest area with a thriving nightlife, however when we visited during July 2021 we were lucky to get the entire beach to ourselves on some days.
The beach is beautiful with turquoise clear water. It has a wide stretch of sand and is still relatively unspoiled with coconut and palm trees lining the sand. Small huts line the beach offering cold beers and local food. We were lucky enough to see a small beach festival with a DJ playing nightly. Highly recommend parasailing during sunset.
Despite the reputation of Patong the party destination, there is no denying that it has one of the best beaches in Phuket.
4. Bang Tao, North West Phuket
One of the most expansive beaches in Phuket it stretches for 3km. Some gorgeous 5* resorts are located on the North – Angsana Laguna Phuket was our favourite. Also some beach clubs and more hotels to the south. The middle part of the beach, next to the Angsana Laguna Phuket you will find lots of local Thai beach bars. However, it is still relatively quiet and it’s the perfect place for a walk across the sand especially at sunset.
5. Kamala, West Phuket
Located on the west side of Phuket about 9km north of Patong beach. It is a quiet stretch of golden sand popular with expats and people staying for the longer-term. There are lots of sunbeds on the beach for a minimal fee and little beach restaurants littered along the beach. Ideal for a break from the sun and refresh. It is a popular surfing spot especially in low season when the waves get rather big!
Sitting directly on Kamala beach is the popular Intercontinental Hotel Phuket. A beautiful looking 5* hotel.
