Laguna Phuket is an area in Bang Tao with 7 hotels spread across the Bang Tao beach surrounded by beautiful lagoons. There are many amazing restaurants, bars and beach bars in Laguna Phuket area.
Read on for 12 of our favourite restaurants in this area when we visited.
The stunning Angsana Laguna Hotel was our hotel of choice, a sprawling resort set around lagoons and alongside Bang Tao beach. We ate at the hotel a few times but also explored lots of the Laguna Phuket area.
Here are 12 places we tried and enjoyed:
Xana Beach Club – Angsana Laguna Resort
The Angsana hotel has a few restaurants, however, at the point we visited (July 2021) only Xana Beach Club was open in the evenings. It is an ideal beach bar with tables next to the pool, set back from the beach, cheap cocktails (100-200baht or 11-22dhs!) and great service.
Booking.comCata Beach Club
South of the Angsana, a 10minute taxi (200bht) or a 20minute walk along the beach to get to Catch Beach Club. In the Laguna Phuket area. It is a trendy beach bar with Balearic type vibes. A beach swing, turquoise and white furnishing, iced cold glasses and good cocktails, a perfect spot for sunset. The menu is tapas style – seafood sharing plates and pizzas. The margarita pizza for the boys was lovely and we enjoyed some calamari!
Bang Tao Beach Bars
There is a cluster of beach bars and shacks down next door to the Saii Laguna. We had drinks in The Local Bar, Number 1 Seafood Bar, Beach Pig, The Tiki Hut and ate in the Golden Fish when we were in the Laguna Phuket area. A series of perfect, local beach huts alongside the beautiful Bang Tao beach offering wonderful sunset views.
Cherng Talay Town
Cherng Talay, only a 5/10 minute drive from Angsana Laguna has an abundance of bars, restaurants, shops and coffee shops. Also a very handy ‘expat supermarket’ as the locals call it – Villa Market – where you can stock up on wine, beer and snacks for the kids. Directly opposite the supermarket is a taxi rank/tuk tuk rank where you can hop in to get back to the hotel.
There is a little area with a few street food style restaurants, the Mexican is popular on a Tuesday. They do Taco Tuesday – 50bht tacos, we didn’t eat there but was busy. Around 7.30pm there is a fire show which the kids loved…a perfect spot to sit on the street with a cold Singha and enjoy within the Laguna Phuket area.
Black Cat Restaurant
A fusion of Italian, French and Thai food with a typical Thai restaurant decor; wooden/bamboo tables, plants and motorbikes parked up. This restaurant has been here for 25 years and we can see why.
The kids had pizza and burger, we ordered a mixture of Thai – the nicest chicken satay we’ve had in a long while! If you spend over 500baht they will drop you back to your hotel within the Laguna area so it’s a great place to end up. The cocktails were good and it was all so cheap – 3 drinks each, kids food plus our food and total bill was around 2000bht (220dhs!).
We came back to eat here twice and it was our final meal in Phuket before leaving for the airport. A Thai feast of jumbo prawns, pork noodles, green curry and rice and of course the chicken satay. All at a great price! Just watch out for the over-friendly dog that’s wandering around. He got a little snappy, understandably, with Elis who was annoying him. But he’s obviously not used to children.
Little Paris Restaurant
One very popular restaurant is Little Paris (not too far from Villa Market) on Boat Avenue in Laguna Phuket. It is a trendy Parisian style café full of couples and families enjoying dinner. They have daily promotions and we went for the burger – buy one get one free – delicious. It was a perfect size, not laden with chips or too huge to be able to eat without making a big old mess! The kids enjoyed the spaghetti bolognaise and pizza too. Our beers were brought out in little beer buckets. There were plenty of waiters around meaning the service was quick and easy. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a bit of Western food during your stay.
Thailicious Restaurant
On Boat Avenue there are a few street food style, small restaurants. The Mexican always looks popular but behind that there is a little Thai restaurant – Thailicious. They do a great green curry and chicken pad Thai and the kids demolished the chicken fried rice! Cheap and cheerful option in Laguna Phuket.
Pesto Restaurant
Pesto restaurant was recommended by our Air BnB host as an inexpensive restaurant with a good Thai menu. We had to give it a try! It does have a great Thai menu and the food was delicious. We had a whole steamed fish and a Thai curry – standard meals for us. I loved the prawn starter in crispy noodles too and they did a good spaghetti bolognaise for the kids. Friendly, tasty and cheap – just up our street!
Tatonka Restaurant
Tatonka is a really cool, airy space with an open kitchen where you can watch the chefs preparing your food. They have a fusion menu with elements of Mexican, Asian and Mediterranean food mixed together. Their starters are a unique tapas mix. We opted for the ‘Chef’s Mix’ of chefs selection and had a beautiful, tasty sharing platter with prawns, beef, crab cakes and nachos. It was delicious. We then had the duck curry and chicken for main which was also very tasty. It was completely different to our usual choice of restaurants when we are in Thailand. It did feel like we were in Dubai for the evening. The wine selection was good and for a treat meal I would definitely recommend it.
Pepper Sports Bar
An English style pub, all the sports you could imagine being shown. There are football shirts on the wall, happy hour beers 80bht (9dhs) and friendly, welcoming staff. We only stopped for a beer and a milkshake and for Phil to note down any sport he could possibly watch! Perfect for any sports fanatics not wanting to miss out whilst on holiday in the Laguna Phuket area.
O’Hara’s Irish Pub
O’Hara’s Phuket is a typical looking Irish pub both inside and out. It had only been open a few months and still had a fresh look about it. The menu looked amazing, we didn’t eat but it’s the ideal place if you’re craving a slice of home comforts. They have a good little kids menu and show all the sports too. We stopped here for a beer a couple of times and it always had a cosy atmosphere.
Waffles Street Food
Thai street food is something we love, especially for snacks throughout the day. We haven’t seen much of it in this area but we did find a waffle stall outside Black Cat. Our boys were delighted with this. Nutella waffles cooked to order, a perfect end to any evening.
There are a lot of fusion type restaurants, international restaurants like Mexicans, Spanish, Italian and German. The international cuisine obviously caters for the local area. It is a ‘trendy’ area in comparison to the rest of Phuket and a great place for a foodie!
