1. Beautiful beachfront location
Sri Lanka has a lot to offer, and one big part of it is the wonderful beaches. The Sun Siyam Pasikudah is located on a beautiful stretch of sand, adorned by coconut trees and a low coral reef. This idyllic beach is famous for its shallow coastline, where you can walk nearly a kilometer into the ocean without the water rising above your knees. The calm, turquoise waters make Pasikudah an ideal destination for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities, whilst providing a safe environment for families.
Sun Siyam Pasikudah has a private area on the beach with comfortable sun loungers, hammocks and cabanas where you can base yourself for the day. Swimming in the sea, kayaking, finding crabs, the sea swings and going on the small jetty to look for fish. It is the perfect peaceful beach escape.

2. Huge Villa Style Rooms
Sun Siyam has 33 elegant rooms throughout the resort, all providing ultimate comfort and relaxation. Seriously, the bed in this resort is unreal – king size, comfortable and cosy. The standard room is a Deluxe Suite which is huge, ample space for a family with a large bed and living area which easily fits 2 extra beds for the kids. As well as an indoor-outdoor bathroom with a huge bath under the sky which we LOVED. Also a massive balcony overlooking the gardens and out to the sea.
If you are looking for a more exclusive experience, the Ocean Suites at Sun Siyam Pasikudah offer direct access to the beach. Going a step further, the 2-bedroom villas also boast a private swimming pool, living room and sun loungers. There really are options for every size family and budget here.
3. Amazing swimming pool
The centre piece of the stunning Sun Siyam Pasikudah is their beautiful swimming pool, overlooking the beach. Comfortable sunbeds line the sides with the signature black and white towels and parasols giving a cool, retro Miami vibe to this Sri Lankan resort.
The spacious pool is big enough for guests to enjoy a spot around the pool and a leisurely swim. It is also shallow enough with a downward slope for kids to enjoy and paddle around safely. In addition to the main pool, the kids area ‘The Little House’ has a small swimming pool that children can use. It even has child size sun loungers in the iconic black and white next to the kids pool.
4. Stylish Decor and Interiors
Every corner of this property has been considered, it is a marvel to see. A traditional Sri Lankan design mixed with a retro black and white theme, just spectacular. From the moment you enter the airy, open lobby with beautiful light fittings, incense burning, soft furnishings and a traditional tea room, you know you are in for a treat.
This continues over a bridge with fish, the beautifully calm spa area and onto the walkway into the main restaurant area and out to the pool. Our eyes were darting everywhere with whispers of “Wow! This is just beautiful!”. The parasols around the pool to the kids area and down onto the beach, everywhere you look the design is perfectly complete.
All the details are considered with everything following the same theme, right down to the hugely spacious open aired bathroom complete with a spa bath. No detail has been spared. They have hit the nail on the head with the traditional, luxurious vibe throughout the entire resort.
The interior of this stunning resort has been so well thought out. It is eco-conscious with local products used throughout the property. When undergoing renovation, local tradesmen and workers were hired giving a great boost to the local community.
5. All Inclusive Package
Sit back, relax and don’t worry about where to eat or what you want. With the All Inclusive package you can have it all! From the lavish breakfast buffet with a live egg station, pancakes, waffles, English and Sri Lankan breakfast and all the fruit, pastries and cold cuts you could want. To lunch at The Kitchen, a beautiful restaurant overlooking the iconic pool, a daily changable menu of soup, main course and dessert – more food than we could manage!
Then evening dinner service at The Kitchen with another wonderful array of delicious food. From soups, salad, pasta, rice, traditional Sri Lankan to freshly cooked steak and pasta as well as a whole display of desserts whilst enjoying the evening musical entertainment. On the drinks menu you can choose from beer, wine and spirits like gin, vodka etc. served in the bar, beach shack or The Kitchen restaurant during lunch and dinner.
6. Food and Dining Options
The Sun Siyam Pasikudah offers a variety of food and dining options for everyone.
- The Kitchen is the main restaurant which has two seating areas. A bright, open restaurant overlooking the pool and beach it is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee and evening meal. The buffet selection here is wonderful, changing daily and replenished regularly. High quality food on offer with live cooking stations too.
- The Slice and Grill – This is the place to get all-day dining, bar food and pool bites. Great pizzas and quick, easy, tasty food!
- Beach Dining – A magical, private evening that can be set up by Sun Siyam Pasikuda. Watch the sunset, have a cocktail at the beach bar and then enjoy a private dinner set up listening to the waves. Top quality food in the most memorable setting. Absolute bliss.
- Wine Cellar – An additional private dinner option is in the wine cellar, just next to The Kitchen restaurant. You will sit on a big table surrounded by wine and enjoy a high end meal in a private setting. Choose wine from the shelf, sit back and enjoy the food.
- The Bar – The perfect casual beachside bar with patio seating next to the pool. There is a pool table inside which is the perfect place to cool off from the sun.
- The Beach Shack – As it says, a shack on the beach with swings. The ideal place to sip a few cocktails as the sun goes down.
7. Sustainable and Eco Conscious Resort
Did you know that 90% of the staff at the Sun Siyam Pasikudah are employed locally and have been given opportunities to enhance their skills? The staff here are proud, they love the hotel and talk proudly about it. Explaining that they are highly thankful for what it has brought to the community. There is local artwork around the hotel and every measure is taken to preserve the Sri Lankan culture and heritage.
During our 5 night stay here, we interacted with a lot of the staff, chatting with them and finding out about their backgrounds. Additionally, we went on an excursion and spent a long time in the car with the driver. He was so proud of his employment at the hotel and what it had helped him build for his family.
As well as this, many local community projects are run during the year such as beach cleanups and tree-planting initiatives that involve guests. Solar lighting, recyclable materials and energy saving appliances are apparent throughout the hotel where the resort is taking extra measures to reduce its environmental impact.
8. Peace and Tranquility
Sun Siyam Pasikudah is the pinnacle of a peaceful, tranquil resort. The most perfect place to relax. You won’t find people hounding you to do water aerobics by day or join in on organised fun. It is definitely not the place for a loud, late disco with entertainment. The evening entertainment ranges from local dancing to saxophone players to an acoustic band. Perfectly fitting to the resort, the surroundings and the guests. This resort oozes luxury and class.
Enjoy the silence, read a book, sip a cocktail and talk a walk on the beach. Play some tennis, hit the gym or cool off in the bar with a game of pool. Spend your evenings enjoying chilled drinks at the beach or pool bar watching the sunset moving onto dinner in The Kitchen. It is our idea of a heavenly relaxing holiday.
9. Ease of excursions and Sri Lanka experiences
The location of Sun Siyam Pasikuda offers the best of both worlds. Whilst being situated on a private, tranquil beach you are also in easy range of many of Sri Lanka’s must-see destinations.
Nearby are many national parks where you can go on an excursion to see animals in the wild. We opted for the elephant safari, leaving the hotel around 11.30am, stopping for lunch. Then being taken on a safari jeep through Kaudulla National Park where you can hope to see around 100 elephants in the wild.
There is the option to go whale watching in Trincomalee (season dependent), Pollonaruwa or Minneriya Safari. Hike the famous Sigiriya rock – an experience not to be missed. Even experience local culture and visit local villages or go fishing.
One of our favourite things to do whilst at the Sun Siyam was a cooking class on the beach. The staff set up a cooking station under the banyan tree on the beach. The chef talked us through the steps to make a Sri Lankan curry. It was a fully emmersive experience in which we all got involved with. Making an amazing prawn curry, beetroot and daal curry which was then served and eaten on the beach. A memorable experience for the whole family.

10. Wonderful Staff and Attentive Service
Finally, the wonderful staff and service cannot go without a mention. From the moment you enter this peaceful resort, you will be treated like family. Welcomed and greeted and made to feel right at home. The attention to detail throughout the resort is second to none. The staff want to make sure you are enjoying every moment of your time in their country.
The General Manager, Arshed is around the property throughout the day and night, checking in with guests, asking for feedback and making sure everyone is happy. The hardworking, friendly people working here make the experience at Sun Siyam Pasikudah even better.
