The InterContinental Muscat is one of the best hotels in Muscat with its sprawling, green, beachfront resort. With multiple restaurants to choose from, swimming pools and wonderful staff it is easy to understand why this 5-star hotel Muscat gets our approval.
From the moment you enter the InterContinental Muscat you will be blown away by the huge, atrium lobby with a modern Arabian design. We were lucky enough to be there during December and the Christmas tree was breathtaking. The 3 lifts travelling up and down the lobby were a particular highlight of our boys stay.
Where is The InterContinental Muscat?
The InterContinental Muscat is in Oman, nestled between the Hajar mountains and the Gulf Coast of Qurum Beach. This Muscat luxury hotel is ideally situated between the business district, at only a 5 minute drive away and on the way to the heart of Muscat, Muttrah. The Muscat Royal Opera House is also only a short drive away. You can do a Big Bus Tour of the main sights on Muscat, check for ticket prices directly here.
Facilities at The InterContinental Hotel Muscat
This 5 star resort in Muscat has everything you need for the perfect family getaway in Muscat, Oman. From a 25m Olympic sized swimming pool for swimming, relaxing Lagoon Pool, Tennis Court and Padel Court, Spa with sauna and jacuzzi and open the gate to the beautiful Qurum Beach for a stroll. As well as this, the hotel has lots of green, grassy space which is ideal for kids to run around and let off steam. Not forgetting the big kids playground where my boys spent many happy hours up and down the slide.
We loved relaxing at the Lagoon pool during the day which is temperature controlled during the winter months so we didn’t get cold. Make sure to catch the sunset on Qurum Beach to end your day too.
Rooms at The InterContinental Hotel Muscat
With 270 guest rooms and 8 suites there are rooms available for every family stay at this Muscat hotel. All the rooms either overlook the beautiful Gulf Coast or the Hajar Mountains.
We stayed in a Classic Family Room which had 2 double beds and the most wonderful view to wake up to everyday. As well as a small balcony which is something we always look for when booking a family hotel room. It is the perfect space to sit outside once the kids are in bed with a coffee or glass of wine to end the evening.
Listen out for the birds at sunset in the trees around the resort. We could hear them from our balcony each evening and it was the most magical, calm sound with a pink sky.
Restaurants at The InterContinental Muscat
With 5 restaurants, a pub and a café you will be spoilt for choice at this luxury hotel Muscat. Trader Vics, a popular French Polynesian restaurant with also delicious cocktails and a wonderful balcony for sunset views was a winner for us. Check out the Trip Advisor Reviews here to see for yourself.
Also loved the Italian, Trattoria Tomato which overlooks the pool. This restaurant had a delicious evening buffet with high quality beef, salmon and chicken as well as pasta and pizza freshly cooked to order. Our boys adore Italian food so this was a family winner. Trip Advisor reviews of Tomato Muscat here.
Musandam is the signature restaurant with buffet and all day dining options but it was unfortunately closed for a refurbishment during our stay. You can check out the Trip Advisor reviews for Musandam Muscat here. Takara, a high quality Japanese restaurant popular for sushi and sashimi is on the ground floor. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to visit but it looked amazing. The reviews on Trip Advisor are pretty good too. Lastly, there is Mynah’s Edge an outdoor Arabic cuisine restaurant.
Al Ghazal is an English pub in Muscat and has the traditional décor of a pub back in the UK. Note that you can’t take children in here. My son was desperate to play a game of pool with Daddy but it is 21+ only. You can check out the reviews here of Al Ghazal.
Make sure to pop over to Tr-Eat in the lobby lounge for a coffee and cake during your stay too. We loved the gingerbread men during Christmas time.
Breakfast during our stay was served at Trader Vics and it was incredible. A huge array of hot food, salads, bakery items, cereal and eggs cooked to order. I loved the eggs benedict, my absolute favourite, delicious!
Tip: Watch out for the crows if sitting on the balcony, they surround and attack as soon as a table is left empty…
Staff and Service at The InterContinental Hotel Muscat
The staff went above and beyond for us, they quickly learnt the boys’ names and chatted to them daily. They were helpful whenever we asked for information and check in and out was quick and easy. Everyone was focused on making sure we enjoyed our stay.
Overall, we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough for a family resort style holiday in Muscat. There is plenty to keep the kids occupied whilst being in a central location. The food, rooms, staff and service made our experience here. We will definitely be back at The InterContinental Hotel Muscat for our next stay.
