How to get to my staycation in Fujairah
Fujairah is on the eastern coast of the UAE, around a 1.5hr to 2hr drive from Dubai. There is also an option to get a bus from Union Square Bus Station in Deira, Dubai to Fujairah. It takes around 2hours, runs every hour and costs 25dhs each way. From Fujairah Bus Station you will have to get a taxi to the Intercontinental Hotel Fujairah as transport in the emirate of Fujairah is limited.
Renting a Car
Renting a car in the UAE is straight forward and inexpensive. It is a great option if you don’t have your own car as then you can explore the area of Fujairah as well.

Here is a list of some things that we LOVED about this hotel making it perfect for a staycation in Fujairah – we will go into further detail later on:

Rooms at Intercontinental Hotel Fujairah
This beach hotel Fujairah features 190 guest rooms and suites, all designed with modern amenities and luxurious touches. Many rooms offer private balconies or terraces with breathtaking views of the ocean or the mountains.
We stayed in a deluxe suite and the size of this room was like nothing else we have seen. A huge living space, pantry with bar and fridge, king sized bed room, dressing area and large bathroom with an incredible rain shower.
Pools at Intercon Fujairah
The infinity pool is the main attraction at this Fujairah resort and hotel. Overlooking the Arabian Gulf this pool offers and array of cabanas and beds. A beach bar has been recently added to compliment the sunset happy hour. The pool has a wonderful glow of the sun setting behind the Hajar mountains in the distance.
The family pool was recently renovated and it offers a great area for families to play and connect without disturbing other guests. Surrounding the pool is a small baby pool, splash park and a playground with a cover. Essential for offering a great escape from the heat.
If you are an IHG Club Member there is a private pool are only accessible for members alongside a club lounge and games area with a pool table.
Restaurants at Intercontinental Fujairah
The main restaurant is Nama which offers a huge international buffet selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are on all-inclusive or full board meal plan you will find different food each day with plenty of choices to please everyone. We particularly loved the egg station in the mornings where we tried a range of options – from the eggs benedict to omelettes to poached eggs.
The kids section has a variety of kids food both for breakfast and lunch and dinner. With food like pasta, nuggets and pizza on offer. The boys loved the pancakes and waffles each morning too.
As well as Nama, there is a seafood restaurant, Drift, which is adjacent to the infinity pool. If you are looking for a quiet, a la carte option then Drift is an ideal place to spend an evening. Make sure to try the scallops, parfait and red snapper – all were cooked perfectly. There is a good kids menu on option too.

Best Spa Fujairah
The spa, O Spa by L’Occitane, at the Intercontinental Hotel in Fujairah is the epitome of luxury. Be prepared to be transported to Provence with the renowned French brand L’Occitane. From the moment you open the door you instantly feel relaxed with the smell, ambience and neutral vibes.
L’Occitane pride themselves on natural ingredients and high quality skincare with the therapists offering a range of treatments. Couples rooms and private rooms are on offer, all with ensuite rooms for you to shower privately afterwards.
What can kids do at this hotel?
There is so much for kids to do at this hotel and that is what makes us believe the Intercon Fujairah is the perfect family break. From the large rooms, interconnecting rooms or suite rooms to give space and privacy for the whole family. There is a big kids section at the buffet breakfast and dinner. As well as lots of choice on the kids menu at Drift.
The grounds themselves are huge. There is so much space for the kids to run about happily on the grass amongst the trees. Football goals on the big grass area is ideal for busy kids and our boys loved it. As well as this, the family pool with a splash park, baby pool and playground offer so much fun for little ones. Topped off is the kids club for younger guests. The teens club for older visitors has pool games, ball games and organised fun throughout the day. Trust me, kids are well catered for in the Intercontinental hotel Fujairah.
When is the best time to go for a staycation in Fujairah?
Like the rest of the UAE, Fujairah experiences hot summers with high temperatures. But don’t let that put you off! Fujairah is actually a few degrees cooler than Dubai so even in hotter weather you can still have a great time, and you might find a bargain! We visited in August and in June and both times have had a wonderful time. The pools in the summer are lovely and cool. There is plenty of shade, cold water, cool drinks and great a/c! Plus if you get up for sunrise you will find the early mornings on the beach are lovely.
Alternatively, the best weather is probably from November to May which is when you will find the sun more bearable. You will be able to lie by the pool in comfort.

What else is there to do in Fujairah?
Fujairah is one of our most favourite emirates in the UAE. We have spent a LOT of time there, exploring and adventuring. If you are a family that enjoys getting outdoors and exploring the beauty of the UAE (like us!) then here are a few of our recommendations:
- Sheesh Nature Trail – a short hike (more of a walk!) through local farm area. There are a few wadis and pools further down too. Also the Sheesh Park is a great place for a walk around and the kids to enjoy the playground.
- Al Rafisah Dam – like the Hatta Dam but smaller and not as well known (at the moment!). There is the option to book pedal boats or kayak. There is a small cafe and ice cream shop with views over Al Rafisah dam.
- Al Rafisah Hike – as well as the dam, there is a hiking trail up the mountain. If you cross the bridge and follow the flag signs it is a well worn path that is easy to follow and has fantastic views.
- Khorfakkan – always a firm favourite, explore the small souk, visit the amphitheatre.Walk the promenade and stop in one of the lovely cafes in Khorfakkan.
- Snorkeling – Snoopy island is famous for its snorkeling – check out the trip here with Get Your Guide
- Diving – if you have your Padi licence or you are interested in trying diving you can check out an organised trip whilst in Fujairah to discover the best place to dive in the UAE
- Al Rabi Hike – another popular hiking trail up a mountain that offers wonderful views over Khorfakkan and the sea. Perfect for adding into your staycation in Fujairah.
- Wadi Abadilah Hike – a bit of a further drive but another popular family hike in UAE. Look out for rock pools and frogs.
