Visiting Bimmah Sink Hole with kids is a must when in Oman. A natural turquoise pool off the Muscat-Sur Highway only about 1.5hours from Muscat.
The Name Bimmah Sinkhole
Local stories say a falling star caused the hole in the ground. The park where Bimmah Sinkhole is located was named ‘Hawaiyat Najm’ which means ‘falling star’ in Arabic. However, it is really just erosion of limestone over the years!
Where to Stay near Bimmah Sinkhole
As Bimmah Sinkhole is only around 1.5hours from Muscat it could be visited as a day trip from Muscat. We stayed at the budget-friendly Ramada Encore in Muscat city-centre. If you are looking for something a little more luxurious we can also personally recommend the Crowne Plaza Muscat and the Shangri-La Hotel.
Parking
You will need to drive or organise a driver to reach Bimmah Sinkhole. When you arrive at the site there is parking outside a green park area which we weren’t expecting, but don’t be put off. Park up, grab your towel and walk along the path through the park to the centre where the fresh, azure water beckons.
Booking.comBimmah Sinkhole with kids access
To access Bimmah Sinkhole with kids you will need to climb down (and back up!) around 30 stone steps. The ground surrounding the pool is rocky and has lots of small stones. Wear trainers and take flip flops or swimming shoes with you to change next to the water.
Once in, the water is crystal clear, cool and welcoming out of the heat of the sun. Watch out for the fish who like to nibble your feet just like a Thai spa! It can be a little shock but something that makes visiting Bimmah Sinkhole with kids memorable.
When to go to Bimmah Sinkhole
Our advice, as always is to arrive early. Unfortunately due to an emergency dentist trip in Muscat we didn’t arrive until about 12pm. It was hot but the benefit was there weren’t too many people.
Be aware that Oman and the Middle East is hot. The best time of year to take a trip to Oman is between November and March.
Bimmah Sinkhole with kids is a must-see when in Oman and is definitely worth a stop or a day trip from Muscat. It is best to combine with other Wadis in the area like Wadi Shab which is only another 25minutes further down the road as Bimmah Sinkhole is only a short stop.
