Rawai Fish Market

Rawai Fish Market is down a small road in Rawai fishing village. Full of fresh fish caught daily on one side and restaurants on the other side waiting to cook your catch of the day!

We highly recommend staying at the beautiful Vijitt Resort in Rawai during your stay in Phuket. It is only a 5 minute drive from Rawai Fish Market.

Walking down the street there are lots of market stalls, shops and restaurants. Towards the end of the road you will find a few stalls selling an array of fresh fish. Red snapper, sea bass, a variety of different sized prawns, lobster, crabs and a collection of shell fish all arranged and ready for sale.

Location of Rawai Fish Market

Rawai Fish Market is in Southern Phuket. To get here just head to Rawai Pier, when you’re looking at the pier take a left and you will see the small road with shops leading into the stalls of Rawai Fish Market.

Rawai Pier is also worth a walk down, there are lots of fishermen – our boys were delighted to find a fish. Expect to see lots of local children jumping off the pier into the sea and clambering up the rocks, little dare-devils!

We were staying at the stunning Vijitt Resort in Rawai which is just a 5 minute drive away and the hotel offers a shuttle bus. This is really handy if you do not have a car during your stay in Phuket.

If you are not staying in Rawai you will need to organise a car or taxi to get here.

We ate here twice despite only being in Rawai for 3 nights as we just had to come back after the first time. The fish was fresh and cooked perfectly and it was all so cheap – especially coming from Dubai. The boys also loved wandering around and pointing out all the different fish, getting lots of attention!

Costs

The first visit we negotiated with one market seller and bought a red snapper to feed the 4 of us, 10 jumbo prawns and some scallops which cost around 700baht which is 70dhs or £15. We then walked across the street to the Khun Pha restaurant where we were given a menu and chose how we wanted the fish cooked. There are a few restaurants here all offering the same experience we purely went to this one as the market lady directed us here, we enjoyed it, so we went back. Simple!

The restaurant weigh the fish and charge you 100baht (10dhs or £2) per kg to cook and prepare it for you. You can choose additional items from the menu too like noodles, rice etc so we had a feast!

The second time we opted for sea bass and more jumbo prawns (500bht). The best part is being able to choose how you like them cooked – half in garlic butter for the kids and half Thai spicy for us! Delicious.

Rawai Fish Market is must visit for any fish lovers visiting Phuket. If you are staying in another part of Phuket and just visiting on day trip, combine your visit to Rawai Fish Market with sunset at Promthep Cape and a day at Nai Harn Beach. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Rawai we highly recommend The Vijiit Resort Phuket.
